Class 10 2017 - 2018

Miss Healey

Welcome to Summer Term 2 in Class 10

Here you will find lots of information about our class and what we have been learning.

Our new topic for this half term is based around the story 'Jack and the Flum Flum Tree'. The children will meet Jack's Granny who has been taken ill with the 'Moozles' and is covered in purple spots! The children will go on an adventure to the 'Isle of Blowyernose' in search for the 'Flum Flum Fruit' where they will enjoy activities based around the themes of under the sea, journeys and pirates. The characters the children will meet include Jack, Jack's Granny, a doctor, a sailor, a pirate and a monkey! Will the children succeed in finding the Flum Flum Fruit and curing Granny's Moozles?

Early Years Foundation Stage

In Reception, we follow the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS) which is divided in to 7 areas of learning. All areas of learning are interconnected and implemented through carefully planned, purposeful play based around the children's interests.

Prime Areas

Personal, Social and Emotional development;

Communication and Language;

Physical development

Specific areas

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

In Reception we learn through a range of teacher directed and child-initiated activities which take place both inside and outside the classroom. We focus on building positive relationships with the children where the children feel supported and learn to be strong and independent learners.

Our Busy Week!

Every morning, the children will have a healthy snack. This is a lovely social opportunity for the children. Snack can be paid for either electronically on-line or by placing the money in an envelope which can be put in the yellow box in reception.  Your child will also be provided with a free afternoon snack.

This term, we will be taking our PE lessons outside (weather dependent). Please can you make sure that as well as shorts and t-shirt your child has a warm jumper and a pair of trainers in his/ her PE bag. Earrings and jewellery must be removed. Everything must be clearly named including bags..

We will be swimming during the summer term. The first lesson will take place during the week beginning 23rd April 2017.  Class 1o will be swimming on Tuesday afternoon. Your child will need a towel and a swimming costume; please could these be put in the blue swimming bag which needs to be clearly names. Girls must wear swimming costumes (no bikinis) and boys must wear swimming trunks (no baggy shorts.) Earrings and jewellery must be removed. Everything must be clearly named. If you are available between 1.00 and 2.15 on your child’s swimming day and would be able to support us during swimming, please can you see your child’s class teacher.

Reading Books

Thank you for all your support with your child’s reading this year; from the comments in the reading diaries it is clear that you are enjoying reading at home. We strongly recommend that you read with your child for at least ten minutes a day. Please encourage your child to talk about what they have read. Please practise the high frequency words that your child brought home before the Easter holidays; your child needs to recognise these words by sight.

Your child will continue to bring home the new sounds they have been learning in phonics. Please practise reading and writing the new sounds as well as previously learnt sounds. A useful website is where you can find lots of phonics games. There are also some great phonics games on Education city. Most children are currently working on phase 3/4 phonics.

Maths Challenge

Thank you for completing the practical maths challenges with your child at home. These challenges are based around what we have been learning at school. Maths homework needs to be uploaded on to learning book by Wednesday- if this is not possible please can reading diaries be signed with a comment.

Learning Books

Your child’s learning book is a fantastic record of what your child has been doing at school, how they learn and how this links to the Early Years Outcomes. Please continue to regularly look at your child’s learning book, adding keep sake comments as well as at home observations.
