In English our focus will be the key skills needed in Year 1 - these will include handwriting, spellings of everyday words and using capital letters and full stops in the correct place.  We will also be developing our stamina for writing when completing longer writing tasks.

We will be looking at a great range of books. These include

In Maths we will be focusing on place value of numbers within 20 and 50 (including multiples of 2, 5 and 10) and addition and subtraction of numbers within 20. We will also be looking at length and height.

PE will take place on a Thursday afternoon. The children  will be doing outdoor PE . Can you please ensure that they have the correct outdoor PE kit with trainers and a warm tracksuit and can you check that all pieces of kit are correctly named.

English and Maths homework will be set on Education City so please check this each week. Please can you ensure that your child gets an opportunity to complete this every week.

The children must read at home at least 3 times a week and talk about what they have read.  Can you please ensure they have their book in school everyday. Books will be changed on a Monday and children will be given enough reading material to last the week. Please ensure you sign your childs reading record otherwise books will not be changed. Thank you for your support.

Topic Homework

Homework will be set every 2 weeks and will involve interviewing parents and grandparents to find out about the toys that you played with. This will be handed out on Monday 8th January.

Spelling Homework

Please start to learn column 4 of the Year 1 spelling list. If there are any spellings from column 1, 2 or 3 that your child is still unsure of then please focus on these first before moving to column 4.

If you would like to help within the classroom, to hear readers or  you don't mind cutting, sticking and laminating then please let me know. All help is always much appreciated.

Thank you for your continued support.
