Happy Summer Term Everyone!

Our new topic is:

Splash! Where does all the water go?

Homework

English and Maths homework will be assigned on Mondays online on Education City, MyMaths or Spag.com. Spellings will be given out at the start of the half term to learn and these will be tested at the end of the half term - these are compulsary spelling lists for all children by the end of Year 4, so please help us by encouraging your child to keep practising these spellings.(They are available in the files section on this class webpage)  Reading remains a key priority and all children need to be reading at least 3 times a week and this must recorded and signed off in the reading diary.

Want more reading ideas? Join http://www.lovereading4kids.co.uk/

This is a great website, which is free to sign up to, and allows children to select age-appropriate material. It also let you read opening extracts from a huge range of books as a 'taster' to see if you'd enjoy reading the whole book. There are reviews and book of the month lists.

There is also the adult version too - https://www.lovereading.co.uk/

Topic homework

Topic homework will be sent out each term (see emails) which gives children a chance to complete a different activities based on our current topic. . We will also look forward to showing off all of their hard work at our showcase in the last week of term.

Maths and English

As you know, we have three year 3/4 classes. The children are in ability groups for Mathematics and English and therefore may have a different teacher for this subject.

Reading

In year 3/4 we ask that parents listen to their child read at least 3 times a week and to sign their child's reading diary each time. Reading at home may be independent, but I ask that parents still sign and confirm reading has been completed and I ask that you check your child's understanding of what has been read. Planners will be checked by the English teacher weekly and housepoints awarded. All children will have completed another 'Star Reading Test' at the end of last term and have been given their new reading code so that they can continue reading the Accelerated Reader books and take the book qizzes online to accrue points. As children will now be progressing to reading longer books, there is no longer a specific day to have books changed.  Children need to therefore bring reading books to the class teacher as soon as they are completed to be changed.

PE

We have outdoor PE on Tuesday afternoon this term with Mrs Wilson and Sports Coaching North West.  We will be learning Hockey, tag rugby and football. Class Five will be swimmimg on Wednesday this term - helpers will be needed as usual in order for these sesions to be run. Please see Mrs Mace if you will be available from 2.10 - 3.15pm on a Wednesday.

School Trip and Year 4 Residential

We have got an exciting educational visit planned to Macclesfield Forest in June. The children will have the opportunity to explore and discover the source of the River Bollin. Following the course of Bollin Brook meandering down through the woodlands to the reservoir, children will hypothesis what will happen to the brook as it travels. Through geographical and scientific enquiry, they will plan and carry out simple fieldwork experiments to test their hypothesis.

Feel free to download the topic web in the 'Files' section to learn more about what we will be doing.

In May, the year 4 children will be going on their residentail to Conway. This is a fantastic experience where the children will create lifelong memories.

The summer term is packed with lots of other exciting opportunites too such as sports day, a whole school science day, the summer music concerts and much more.
